Benefits of wheat germ oil: Omega 3 and Omega 6

Research has shown that wheat germ oil is rich in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids and has beneficial effects on inflammatory conditions.

Rich in vitamin E

A high level of natural vitamin E provides antioxidant benefits that protect cells from oxidative damage and support repair and renewal. Wheat germ oil is also known to improve levels of liver enzymes in serum, providing additional liver protection.

Beta-carotene

In addition to vitamin E, wheat germ oil contains additional carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, which provide additional antioxidant support to the horse.

Octacosanol

Wheat germ oil also contains octacosanol, a component of plant wax. Recent research has shown that this component of wheat germ oil can have beneficial effects on the performance of horses. Making it an ideal addition to the diet of competitive horses.

Adding Ultimate Oil wheat germ oil to regular feed provides additional benefits for hard-working horses. And enables them to cope with increasing challenges.

The content of antioxidants in the diet is a key element in reducing the negative effects of long, consecutive competition.

Balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids for optimal health and function

Omega 3 or Omega 6? Which one is better? It’s not necessarily that one is better than the other. They simply have different roles in the body and need to be balanced with each other for optimal health and body function.

Omega 3 is responsible for repairing cell walls and maintaining fluidity and efficient transfer of waste and nutrients. It is also crucial for brain function and essential for cleansing post-healing, as it has a strong anti-inflammatory effect. Omega 6, on the other hand, is responsible for causing inflammation and immune system reactions, which are necessary for stabilizing injuries and fighting infections.

Some more interesting facts

A study conducted at the University of Guelph in Canada revealed that incorporating flaxseed, a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids, into equine diets led to a decrease in skin reactions caused by Culicoides midge bites. These tiny insects are known to transmit arboviruses to both animals and humans. In horses, these bites result in intensely itchy lesions known as sweet itch, often appearing along the midline of the belly, as well as on the back, mane, and tail areas. While steroid treatment can alleviate itching, dietary supplementation may also provide relief.

During the Canadian study, horses were administered 500 grams of flax meal daily for six weeks. At the beginning of the study and the end of the third and sixth weeks, some horses were injected with Culicoides extract, while others received saline injections as a control. Horses that had been fed flax meal showed a significant reduction in allergic skin reactions to the Culicoides injections compared to the control group.
